Angels agree to terms on 2006 contract with pitcher Jeff Weaver

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Angels Wednesday agreed to terms on a 2006 contract with right-handed pitcher Jeff Weaver in an announcement made by club Vice President/General Manager Bill Stoneman. Per club policy, no financial terms of the contracts will be released.

Weaver, 29, spent the 2005 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He finished with a 14-11 record, three complete games, two shutouts and a 4.22 ERA (224 IP - 105 ER) in 34 starts. He ranked eighth in the NL in starts and innings pitched, sixth in complete games, tied four fourth in shutouts and fourth in fewest walks per nine innings pitched (1.73). Weaver had 157 strikeouts and 43 walks, the eighth best strikeout to walk ratio (3.65) in the NL. He set career bests in wins, strikeouts and fewest walks and tied his personal best in starts. Weaver posted a career high six straight victories, July 22-Aug. 28 and pitched into the seventh inning in 18 straight starts, May 24-Aug. 28 (career best).

Originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the first round (14th pick overall) of the 1998 free agent draft, Weaver owns a lifetime 78-87 record with 13 complete games, five shutouts, two saves and a 4.44 ERA (1,396 IP - 688 ER) in 226 games (209 starts). He has appeared in the major leagues with the Detroit Tigers (1999-2002), New York Yankees (2002-03) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2004-05). Weaver has appeared in the post-season with the Yankees (2002 ALDS & 2003 WS) and Dodgers (2004 NLDS).

A native of Northridge, Calif., Weaver resides in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
